Dr. Abu Houli discusses with Commissioner General of UNRWA "Lazzarini" the developments of the financial crisis and preparations for the success of the international donor conference

Member of the executive committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), head of the Refugee Affairs Department Dr. Ahmed Abu Houli discussed with the Commissioner-General of UNRWA Philippe Lazzarini the developments of the UNRWA financial crisis, the efforts of UNRWA to mobilize its financial resources, and the ongoing preparations for the success of the international donor conference in support of UNRWA under the auspices of Jordan and Sweden .
Dr. Abu Houli stressed during his meeting with the commissioner-general of UNRWA this evening at the UNRWA headquarters in Gaza City,the importance of preparing well for the international donor conference to be held to mobilize UNRWA financial resources and achieve permanent and sustainable funding for UNRWA. 
He noted that the efforts of the Department of refugee affairs are in full swing with the countries hosting refugees to create the right climate for the success of the conference.    
  Dr. Abu Houli put the Commissioner-General of UNRWA in the conditions of refugees in Palestinian camps as difficult and dangerous in light of the high rates of poverty, unemployment, the Coronavirus outbreak, the lack of health services in the camps and the lack of quarantine centers.
 He pointed out that most Palestinian refugees rely on UNRWA services in full and mainly and that compromising those services will increase their suffering .
Dr. Abu Houli explained that reducing services to refugees is not a solution to UNRWA's successive crises, and that the solution lies in providing additional funding to donor and funded countries and raising the value of the UN's financial contributions to UNRWA. 
He called Lazzarini  for a review of some of the actions taken by his administration in some areas of its operations without taking into account the circumstances surrounding the refugee community in the camps, which had negative repercussions for the Palestine refugees.
For his part, Lazzarini touched on the gravity of UNRWA's financial situation in the current year, and that his administration is making intensive and redoubled efforts to achieve financial stability in UNRWA's budget for the current year, to continue its services to Palestine Refugees, and to preserve their dignity until a political solution is found to their cause .
He revealed that UNRWA has gone from 2020 with a fiscal deficit of more than 95 million dollar to the current year 2021, pointing out that UNRWA will face new challenges this year .
He stressed that the efforts of UNRWA are aimed at the success of the international donor conference in securing sustainable and adequate support for UNRWA and rely on it greatly to get out of its financial crises and prepare its budgets on accurate and predictable digital information.
The meeting was attended by the Director General of media and public relations and UNRWA file officer of the Refugee Affairs Department Rami Al-Madhoun, and the Director General of camps in the southern governorates Dr. Adel Mansour, the Director of UNRWA operations in the Gaza Strip, Matias Shamali,the Assistant Commissioner-General of UNRWA, Sneli Stadley, and media spokesman for the UNRWA presidency, Adnan Abu Hasna.
